I’m highly active on Instagram (@thankgoditsfryday_) and follow a ton of foodies based in London. I have actually discovered a lot of new places through Instagram which is really cool.
I discovered Pho and Bun by using the Bookatable app. The app allows you to find ‘star deals’ through the according cuisine and location. A star deal basically means a set menu at a set price.
The set deal was very cheap, something like £20 for FOUR COURSES and drink and we felt full and happy afterwards.

This place is located in Soho, it stands out in the very busy streets right near Chinatown. With a neon ‘Pho & Bun’ sign, we were sure to find it right away.
Initial thoughts, a really small but quirky restaurant. There was a dozen small tables in the front shop although we were taken to the back, a small and quirky room with a little ‘bar’. We were given the ‘Star Deals’ menu which actually had every item we originally wanted from the menu anyhow.
We decided to come here on a Saturday night, it was fairly busy but calm and relaxing in the back room with some of the staff actually sitting to have their bowl of pho which felt really family oriented and great to see the staff themselves indulging in their favourite dishes.
We had walked from Covent Garden and we were absolutely starving so we came in here ready for a feast. Which is exactly what we were presented with.
To start, we ordered salt & pepper squid, being salt and pepper squid connoisseurs we were ready to judge but we literally had the best salt and pepper squid we had ever had. The squid was tender inside and crunchy outside, oozing with flavours of garlic, salt, pepper, chilli and onion. We also had an option for a second ‘starter’ kind of dish and we ordered king prawn summer rolls, super crunchy and a mouthful of flavour. It was a real discovery.
Next, we both ordered the beef pho. We often eat at Pho (Cafe) the chain Vietnamese restaurant, it’s actually one of our faves so it was great to compare the flavours. The waitress came over with two massive bowls of pho. The taste was really rich in beef which was exactly what we needed after a cold winters walk. The beef was a brisket rather than steak which is what I usually order. Personally, the brisket didn’t really do it for me, purely because it melted in your mouth and I really like to chew on a rare bit of steak. My boyfriend loved the brisket though, and preferred it to our usual.
Finally we ended with some desserts, I had a coconut flan which absolutely hit the spot after a spicy and hot main and starter. It cooled the palette and just ended the night on a complete high.
The verdict : ****/*****
A beautiful place, a definition of a ‘hidden gem’. Friendly staff with amazing food. The Pho was delicious and so cheap, I will most likely be returning. I can’t say I prefer this Pho to my usual Pho Cafe order, which is why I’ve rated it 4 out of 5. I am very pleasantly surprised with this restaurant and I’ll definitely be returning sometime very soon!
