Once again thanks to the Instagram foodie community, I discovered this beaut little burger shack. There are two located in London (so far), one in Spitalfields and one in Victoria.
This time, we visited the Spitalfields Market based one. Amongst plenty of other street foods, Bleecker stands out with it’s neat logo and black theme. Out of the street food stalls around, Bleecker had a queue, unlike the others. I think most of the time, a queue is definitely a good sign.
WHERE: Old Spitalfields Market, Unit B SP 4, London, E1 6EA
Let me just start by saying this place is a sort of ‘stall’, you get the burger and go. Don’t expect to be seated and greeted. If you’ve been to Shake Shack, it’s a similar concept. You place your order and they give you a little monitor thingy that lights up when your food is ready to go.
I absolutely love the Spitalfields market vibe, plenty of little food places to discover and a really open minded atmosphere. Off topic. Let’s get back on track.
Our order took about 10 to come through, there’s about 5 people working and a big queue so we expected a little wait.
After seeing endless food porn images of these Bleecker burgers, I was so ready. The minute my queue machine beeped, I practically sprinted to the front counter to swipe up my food.
We ordered the double cheeseburger, £9 and a single cheeseburger £6. We also got an oreo shake, cos why not. Normally I would opt for the fries too, but as I was about to visit Borough market I knew I had to leave some room in my stomach for more. (Don’t judge me).
First bite into this burger and all of these flavours hit me at once: cheese, rare juicy beef burger, crunchy lettuce and tangy complimentary sauce. It all works so well.
It’s one of those burgers you bite into and you don’t feel bad eating. You know what I mean? It feels fresh. It’s not that greasy kebab shop feeling.
I ate it up right away, took practically five minutes to gobble it down entirely. I was satisfied and felt ready to conquer another. You know food is good when me and my boyfriend don’t speak until it’s gone. It was literal silence.
Nope, you’re not hallucinating. I rated it a full five stars. It happened. My first 5 star.
I just loved this place. So reasonably priced, such a quirky vibe with just brilliant quality food. They really care about the quality. Every person had their job inside the shack. One guy was seasoning and pressing the burgers, one guy frying, one guy on burger cooking duty, a lady toasting the buns… Everyone knew what they were doing and did their job perfectly.
One of the best burgers I’ve had to date. I’m ready to go back ASAP.
